Speaking of Aaliyah, Bill Condon (director of Dream Girls) is directing Aaliyah’s biopic, of which the release date is TBA. The late songstress will be played by Canadian BMG recording artist Keisha Chante. You may not know her music, but you saw her in her label mate Bow Wow’s video for “Shortie Like Mine”. If you still don’t know who I’m talking about, check out this video. The Trinidadian/Portuguese songbird looks a lot like the late singer. Fast forward to the 1:57 minute mark to see what I mean. Great casting job. The resemblance will lead to a more believable flick. (Don’t you hate when they cast people so opposite of whom the movie is about?)
Also, The great Spike Lee is also directing a biopic on the late Godfather of Soul, Mr. James Brown, in which Wesley Snipes will play the late performer. The latest biopic release of a deceased artist was NOTORIOUS about the late Brooklyn rapper The Notorious B.I.G aka Biggie.
